Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum

The Brass Ring Thing

Renaissance Faire

June 7, 2008
11:00 am - 6:00 pm

The Brass Ring Thing is a fundraising event for the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum presented in conjunction with the Society for Creative Anachronism.  This event brings the current history of the carrousel as an amusement ride together with the ancient history of the carrousel as a training device for knights.

The goal of this Faire is three fold.  We want to promote knowledge about the carrousel, knowledge about the Renaissance and medieval times, and assist the museum in raising funds.  The name "The Brass Ring Thing" comes from the tradition of using a large hoop for knights to practice spearing with jousting lances.  That tradition becomes the more modern act of trying to grab a brass ring as the carrousel turned at an amusement park.

Brass Ring Thing Vendors

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum asks that vendors have only handcrafted items at their booths or items that relate - in some fashion to the Renaissance and medieval heritage that this event is showcasing.  Vendors wishing to demonstrate an art or craft are welcome to do so.  Should

this require additional space, please let the museum know as soon as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Fees

Entry fee: Entry price to the event is $5 for Adults, $3 for Children under twelve, and an all day game pass is an additional $5.

Space rental fee:  A non-refundable rental fee of $20.00 for non SCA members, $10.00 for SCA members with proof of membership.  This is an outdoor show.  Fee includes space, listing in the Brass Ring Thing Program, and coffee and doughnuts the morning of the show.  Check or money order should be made payable to Carousel Society of the Niagara Frontier.

Display Space

Spaces are approximately 10 feet wide and 8 feet deep.  Spaces do not include electricity.  Parking is available on a lot adjacent to the museum.

Loading and Unloading areas will be made available on the mornings of the show and at the conclusion of the show.

Liability

Participation in The Brass Ring Thing Faire is at the vendors risk.  Standard public security will be provided, however, the Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum, their employees, or sponsors of the event will not assume responsibility.  Submission to this festival constitutes agreement on the part of the entrant or crafter to all conditions of the application.
